Ergonomic Office Chairs

Ergohuman

I already have my office chair but, if you need to buy one for yourself, I would suggest that you look no further than the Ergohuman chair range. I have the enjoy office chair, though my colleague swears by the Enjoy office chair model but it really depends on what you’re looking for. One of the points that should affect your decision is your body frame but the nature of your job is also important. What I mean by that second consideration is do you sit down all day long or are you always up and down, does the job involve a lot of twisting (maybe your filing cabinets are right next to you and you don’t have to actually leave your seat to put something away).

For me, the seat tilt and slide and the backrest tilt mean that I can get my back and my bottom to fit comfortably into the Nefil office chair, so that I am actually using its magnificent features to support the whole of my back. That means that I am making use of the lumbar support that the chair back gives. My girlfriend likes the Enjoy office chair, as it has autoflex zones in the lumbar support feature and this does it for her.All of the Ergohuman chair models are to die for, as a lot of thinking has gone into their design. They all have many features and adjustments and I suppose the most noticeable difference is the look of the chair. I just love the simple look and the ergohuman’s chair back from the rear reminds me of the old-style beer bottle opener.

The chair looks good and makes me feel good. With its ribbed look back support, the Enjoy appeals to my friend and that’s fine. One thing we both agreed on was the choice of fabric. Though the leather is very nice, we much preferred the airiness of the mesh. It’s easy to wipe clean and is a chair that breathes, if you know what I mean.I’m really pleased that I was guided towards the Ergohuman range of chairs. It was sound advice and that’s why I am passing the same information on. There’s an interesting range of colours to choose from as well. And as regards to that sound advice … don’t forget to pass it on.

Ergonomic Office Chairs

We live in a designer world, where a dress is no longer a dress but a Stella McCartney number, a suit is a Versace and a car is referred to as the Porsche or some other ‘to die for’ brand name on four wheels.

So, why shouldn’t you refer to your own ergonomic office chair as a Nefil, a Mirus or a Ergohuman?

Why not?

Okay, it’ll be ‘out of the norm’ but think of the good advice you’ll be imparting to your family, friends and colleagues.

What I’m saying is – there’s an office chair but then there’s an ergonomic office chair and, unlike the designer ‘must haves’ mentioned earlier, a good ergonomic office chair doesn’t cost the earth.

When talking about cars, a firefighter friend told me that there are certain cars which stand up better to accident damage (e.g. the Alexis) and the same can be said for your office chair. Some will simply be office chairs, while others will give you additional support and improve your posture.

So, if you are shopping for your own ergonomic office chair, start (and, might I add, finish) with the Ergohuman range. Of the three I have already mentioned, all have those important adjustments, like seat height, seat tilt and that all-important lumbar support section, meaning the design isn’t ‘off the peg’ but made to measure, for you, whoever you are.

You can also go for additional extras, like a headrest and a leg rest, so think the whole picture when you are deciding what’s right for you. What does your job entail?

The duties of your job might make certain features more important to you. For example, that seat tilt. If your job means you are up and down all day long, a forward tilt will actually aid you in standing up, taking some of that pressure of your legs which normally comes from getting up from a more horizontal position.

Once you’ve chosen the right model for you, you can move on to choosing the right colour and the Ergohuman range do much more than black and blue. I’d go for a subtle autumn shade and I’d choose a mesh upholstery, as it’s durable, comfortable and easy to care for.

Are you starting to get the picture? You know, shopping for an ergonomic office chair can be more fun than shopping for something to wear. With the right advice and professional support, you won’t be thinking of taking it back the next day.

The 3-dimensional automatic flexible lumbar support system provides full support to the lumbar region with interactive and dynamic movement, intuitively adjusting to your needs. A ‘zero pressure’ seat cushion helps to distribute weight evenly across the seat pad to provide maximum comfort.

Your Ergonomic Chair

Ergonomics is about getting the situation to fit you, rather than you to fit the situation. So, for example, when looking at an ergonomic office chair, getting the chair to fit you would mean addressing points such as your height, your size and your job duties.

Your height is an important point to address, as a perfect sitting position will mean that your feet are flat on the floor, while your thighs are more or less parallel to the floor. It is easy to see that if your chair is too low for you, your knees will be coming up to meet you and there will be less support to your lumbar region, as your thighs are not making perfect contact with the office chair. If the chair is too high for you, your feet may not fully touch the floor, making steadiness an issue. A height-adjustable chair will help solve these needs. If you suffer from back pain you would be better off with a well designed ergonomic office chair like the BMA Axia Range of Chairs

If you are small in stature, or somewhat overweight, the armrests of the chair may not serve their purpose of supporting your lower arms, again to keep them parallel to the floor and resting on the desk comfortably.

Once the ergonomic chair is adjusted to your needs, you can identify whether the desk height meets your specifications. It’s all right getting the seat absolutely perfect but is the table or desk too high or too low for your wrists to rest comfortably near the keyboard or the paperwork?

This is where adjustable desks show their worth. As the name suggests, a height-adjustable desk will allow you to get the correct height for your perfect workstation.

The theory of ergonomics also addresses a cognitive aspect. For example, why did you place your phone to the left of your monitor and why so far back on the desk? If it’s an office tool that you use quite often, is it in a comfortable and accessible position? Why isn’t the monitor directly in front of you? Regular use of the computer will mean that your body rests in a twisted position (neck and hips) for long periods of time. The placing a heavy dictionary at the back of the desk, instead of closer at hand, will cause pressure to your hand, wrist, arm and shoulder, every time you reach for it.

Ergonomics is a serious business which, once you’ve got it right, encourages your body to respect good posture. An ergonomic desk and adjustable chair might cost a little more than run-of-the-mill office furniture but for all the right reasons. Surveys have shown that working in an ergonomic environment increases productivity by as much as 20%, the enhanced posture having the knock-on effect of increasing work satisfaction. With less posture-related illnesses and the resulting time off work, creating an ergonomic office ticks all the right boxes.

How Ergonomic Office Chairs Promote Good Posture

If you don’t look after our own body, you will indeed suffer. Unfortunately, it could be that you haven’t been looking after your body for quite some time before the signs of your misdeeds show up. In today’s heavily computerised world, workers spend a lot of time sitting down, bending over desks, clicking at keyboards and slouching. It’s now time to think of putting the situation right! Let’s look at a few of the ‘unhealthy’ conditions that could build up after a while. If you know what could happen, maybe you’ll realise that prevention is better than cure.

There’s a bad back, a painful neck and shoulders and there’s RSI, that repetitive strain injury that comes from making the same hand movements regularly and over a long period of time. I’m going to call these the ‘more obvious’ problems.

But then there are other conditions that you might not realise can come from slouching or any other shape of bad posture. There’s vertigo, which can come from you not holding your head at an eye-to-monitor horizontal angle. Looking high or looking low can cause problems with the neck which, unlike ordinary neck ache, can bring on a lack of balance, a drunken-like disorientation and extreme sickness.

There’s also a chance of stomach problems and organ disorders, as slouching means that your stomach and organs are fighting for space in your reduced torso and crushing your life equipment for several hours a day isn’t going to extend your years, is it?
Need I go on?

Okay, so supporting your body, getting your shoulders up there where they should be, giving your lower back a comfortable hug with the support elements of a good ergonomic office chair, adjusting the chair height and also adjusting the tilt of both the seat pad and chair back to make sure your thighs are fully supported and your feet happily touch the floor, now all makes sense, doesn’t it?

But let’s not forget your arms and hands. A good ergonomic office chair will offer all-singing and all-dancing armrests which, with three way adjustments (back and forward, up and down and also in and out), will make sure there is no pressure on your shoulder or upper arm and that your lower arm and hand glide towards that all-important keyboard, ready to tap away the day.

If it was up to you to go and find the right ergonomic office chair, you might flounder, as you haven’t built up any experience in finding the right chair. Hopefully, if you first chair is the right one, you won’t be building up any of that aforementioned experience either, as your chair should last a very long time!

The chairs to look at are the Ergohuman, the Ergohuman Plus and the Mirus Office Chair. Each comes in the ever popular mesh upholstery and in a range of off-the-beaten track colours. If you’re going to sit in a chair for eight hours a day, taking into consideration of course that you should give your eyes a rest from that computer screen several times during your working hours, the breathable mesh fabric will help you stay fresh and cool and the colour, well, the colour makes you feel good and personalizes that five wheeled-vehicle which, as you work, will be riding with all your twists and turns.

What more can I say?
